“While the food is excellent at Shuka—don’t miss the halloumi, the crispy cauliflower, the warm dates, or any of the kebabs, which arrive ate the table with such drama and ceremony you might as well be paying for theater, too—the staff here, many of whom are queer, is so warm and welcoming. Shuka is my go-to spot for dinner when I’m eating in lower Manhattan, and it’s also a perfect solo dining spot, because the bar is comfortable and the bartenders so friendly.”
